Create a Bibliography in EndNote Online

  • Log-in to EndNote Online
  • Hover over 'Format' and click 'Bibliography'
  • Create your bibliography
    • In the References drop-down box, select the references you want to include 
    • In the Bibliographic Style drop-down box, select the style you want to use
    • In the File Format drop-down box, select HMTL, TXT, or RTF
  • Click Save, Email, or Preview & Print

Connect Microsoft Word to Endnote Online using Cite While You Write™

  • Close all Microsoft programs
  • Log-in to EndNote Online
  • Click 'Downloads'
  • Navigate to the Cite While You Write™ section 
  • Click to download the Cite While You Write plugin for your computer (Windows, Windows MSI, or Macintosh)
    • You can also view the Installation Instructions and System Requirements

Select EndNote Online as your Cite While You Write™ Preference

  • Open Microsoft Word
  • Navigate to the EndNote 20 tab
  • Click 'Preferences' then 'Application'
  • In the Application drop-down box select 'EndNote Online'
  • Enter the email address and password associated with your EndNote Online account
  • Click 'Okay'
  • Once Cite While You Write™ reloads, the tab name will be changed to 'EndNote'

Insert Citations

  • Navigate to the EndNote tab and the Citations section
  • Click 'Insert Citations'
  • Enter search terms related to the reference you want to insert, such as the author's name, the source title, etc.
  • Click the appropriate reference
  • Then click 'Insert'
  • An in-text citation and reference entry will be added to your document in the style originally selected

Change Citation Style for all References in a Document

  • Navigate to the EndNote tab and the Bibliography section
  • Click in the Style drop-down box and click 'Select Another Style'
  • Scroll to and select the style you want to use, and click 'Okay'
  • The references in your document now reflect the style you selected
