Adding New References

Add EndNote "Capture" Browser Extension

This browser extension creates an EndNote Online toolbar that allows you to capture online references and save them directly to your EndNote Online library.

  • Log-in to EndNote Online and click 'Downloads'
  • Drag the 'Capture Reference' extension to your Bookmarks Bar

Add References using the Capture Reference Button

  • Navigate to an article, webpage, etc. you'd like to save
  • Click the 'Capture Reference' icon in your browser
  • Follow the on-screen instructions
    • Log-in to EndNote Online, if prompted
  • The EndNote extension will automatically add the reference to your EndNote Online library

Add References from Web of Science

  • Navigate to Web of Science
  • Check the boxes next to the desired references
  • Click 'Export'
  • Select 'EndNote Online'
  • Confirm export details and click 'Export'
    • References will be sent directly to the 'Unfiled' group in EndNote Online

Add References from an EBSCO Database

  • Navigate to an EBSCO database, such as Academic Search Premier
  • Select references by clicking the 'Add to Folder' icon
  • Click the 'Folder' icon at the top of the page
  • Check the boxes next to the desired references and click 'Export'
  • Select 'Direct Export to EndNote Web' and click 'Save'
    • References will be sent directly to the 'Unfiled' group in EndNote Online

Add References Manually

  • From EndNote Online, click 'Collect', then 'New Reference'
  • In the Reference Type drop-down box, select the type of reference, such as a book, blog, journal article, website, etc.
  • Fill in the appropriate bibliographic fields and click 'Save'
