Which guide type should I choose?

Subject Guides

Subject guides are research guides designed to provide instruction and guidance on a specific academic subject. e.g. History, Political Science

Course Guides

Course guides designed to support the teaching and research needs of a specific course.

Topic Guides

Topic guides pull together information on a central topic, tool, or research area that is not generally considered to be an academic department or program. These include guides like Citation Management Software and Open Educational Resources.

General Purpose Guides

General Purpose guides provide general information on a collection or service at the library. The Board Games Collection and the Off Campus Access guides fall under this category.

Internal Guides

Internal guides are made to be shared and used by library employees. This guide, the Librarian Resources guide, is an example of an internal guide.

Template Guides

Template guides are guides that do not contain any actual content but are there to provide a structure to work off of. We communal have templates for subject and course guides and another guide for mapped boxes. Their names begin with ADMIN.

Naming Standards

There are no official naming standards for any type of libguide at this time. It is recommended, however, that the title of course guides contain the course subject's abbreviation (BIO, COMM, ENGL, etc.), the course number, and the name of the course.
