Why |
for finding broad, more comprehensive information on your topic |
Where |
books can be found by searching our catalog and our e-books page. They can be print and electronic. Print books are located on the fourth (A-G), third (H-S), and second (S-Z) floors in the library; online books are accessed through our library catalog. |
How |
begin with a broad search in the library catalog. Use key terms, boolean operators, and limiters to narrow your search |
Select UI Library (books, ebooks, journals) or UI + Summit (items in the UI 36 other PNW libraries).
Start with a basic search. When you find a book about your topic, narrow with the options on the left.
If your UI + Summit search for a print book says "Check Holdings,"
Request via Summit and follow the prompts, or
Request via ILL and follow the prompts to set up your ILL account using the 14-digit barcode on the back of your Vandal Card and your last name.
Summit
Students, faculty, and staff of the University of Idaho have access to the physical library collections of the 36 other member libraries of the Orbis Cascade Alliance. The combined collections of over 28.7 million items can be requested through the University of Idaho Library catalog. Most items will arrive within less than a week. Print items can be checked out for six weeks, and A/V materials for six days. There is no charge for using Orbis Cascade Alliance resources.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Although the Orbis Cascade Alliance has a lot of materials, there may be a few items not available through our partner libraries. If you come across a book that the Alliance doesn't have, we'll borrow it from somewhere else and pass it along to you. Please be aware that while we mail books to you free of charge, you need to pay your own postage to return them to us.
If you have done UI and Summit or Everything search in Primo and encounter print books that say "Check Holdings":
Summit and ILL lending is limited to print and audio visual materials only; ebook licensing restricts loaning between libraries.
