About This Course

Course Description:

Nutrition principles with their application to nutrition in life cycle; nutrition problems and controversies such as weight control and nutrition for athletes; individual computerized study of student's dietary intake. While there are no prerequisites for the course we will be using some terminology from the above disciplines. The focus of the course is on the science aspect of food and nutrition, however, we eat foods, not nutrients, so we will discuss foods providing us required nutrients.

This course is designed not only for students majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics but also students majoring in a variety of other disciplines. The textbook is designed for a class with a mix of nutrition and non-nutrition majors. Supplemental readings are included to enhance understanding of key concepts while expanding on information covered in class.
