Welcome!

If you are taking classes online or at one of the University of Idaho centers, this guide is for you! Use the tabs above to discover how to access library resources without ever stepping into the building!

To use this guide, try opening up a separate browser tab or window and follow along with the instructions you see within it.

Getting Started

To log-in to most library resources from off-campus, you will need to enter your Net ID at the prompt (Vandal Email address and password).  If you don't know your Net ID, please contact ITS at https://help.uidaho.edu/, helpdesk@uidaho.edu, or 208-885-HELP.

For Interlibrary Loan Requests, a library barcode number is still needed. If you do not have a Vandal Card, please call 208-885-6843 or email libill@uidaho.edu to receive a barcode number.

Please contact the Reference Desk with any questions at 208-885-6584, libref@uidaho.edu, or via chat at http://www.lib.uidaho.edu!

Search the Library Catalog

Tips for Searching the Library Catalog:

  • Choose the search scope by selecting either UI Books, Articles, and More (all materials); UI and Summit (items owned by UI and member libraries); or Worldcat (items owned worldwide).
  • Limiting your search: Start with a basic search and once you find a book that seems to be about your topic, you can use the format and/or other options located on the left to further narrow your search.
  • On the Advanced Search page, the year, language, and location (to name a few options) of items can be limited.
  • Subject headings can be a great way to narrow in on your topic.
