FCS 590: Intellectual Foundations in Family and Consumer Sciences: Books & Articles in UI Library Catalog

Search the Library Catalog

Tips for Searching the Library Catalog:

  • Choose the search scope by selecting either UI + Summit + Articles (all materials); UI + Summit (items owned by UI and member libraries); or UI Library Only (items owned only by the UI Library).
  • Limiting your search: Start with a basic search and once you find a book that seems to be about your topic, you can use the format and/or other options located on the left to further narrow your search.
  • On the Advanced Search page, the year, language, and location (to name a few options) of items can be limited.
  • Subject headings can be a great way to narrow in on your topic.

How do I Use Interlibrary Loan?

  1. Locate the book you would like to request using the library catalog.
  2. If the book is not available, or checked, click on Find it, and then Request.
  3. Enter your user name and password.
  4. Verify book request to make sure all necessary fields are complete, and submit.
  5. A record of the request should appear on your account page.

When a Book Is Not Available in the UI Library

Summit
Students, faculty, and staff of the University of Idaho have access to the physical library collections (books, dvds, etc.) of the 39 other member libraries of Summit. Nearly 30 million items from the combined Summit libraries can be requested through the University of Idaho Library catalog. Most items will arrive within 3-5 business days. Print items can be checked out for six weeks, and A/V materials for six days. There is no charge for using Summit.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Although the Orbis Cascade Alliance has a lot of materials, there may be a few items not available through our partner libraries. If you come across a book that the Alliance doesn't have, we'll borrow it from somewhere else and pass it along to you. If you are located outside of the Moscow campus area, we will mail books to you free of charge,  but you will need to pay your own postage to return them to us.
