University of Idaho Extension: Summit and Interlibrary Loan

Library Resources for UI Extension Educators and Researchers.

What is Summit?

Summit is a resource sharing service that provides access to print materials and media from 37 academic libraries throughout Oregon, Washington and Idaho. This service is available free of charge to any currently-enrolled student, staff, or faculty member (current and emeritus) with a valid UI account. Summit works hand-in-hand with circulation account, so no special registration is required. Just log in with your UI Net ID and password to request a Summit item.

Summit uses a courier service that delivers materials within 3-5 business days. When the book you requested arrives at the UI Library, we mail it to your Extension Office. Please contact us at 208-885-6843, or email at libill@uidaho.edu to make arrangements. While we mail books to you free of charge, you need to pay your own postage to return them to us.

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a resource sharing service that allows UI patrons to request materials that are neither owned by the UI Library, nor available through Summit. ILL is available free of charge to any currently-enrolled student, staff, or faculty member (current and emeritus) with a valid UI account.

Turnaround time for loan requests is typically 7-14 days, while articles are usually received within 1-2 days. Patrons are notified by email once their item arrives. Some items are more readily available than others, so, by necessity, we can't guarantee the receipt or delivery time of any requested item.
